I graduated from SHS in 1987 and went to Delta State to study English and drama.  While there, I worked for the housing department as a hall director.  That job allowed me to spend a summer at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, where I took a course on Mark Twain while writing the housing manual.  After graduating from DSU with honors, I went to the University of Southern Mississippi, where I worked on my Master's in English and worked as a hall director to pay the bills.  After leaving USM, I worked on a Master's in Elementary Education at Ole Miss and graduated with honors.  Years later I returned to DSU to work on my Specialist's degree in Administration. This fall I am taking my last class before starting dissertation hours for my Doctorate in Ed. Leadership.

In addition to teaching at the high school level, I also teach several English courses as an adjunct instructor for Northwest Mississippi Community College.  I've been priviledged to present at both the state and national level. The 2017-2018 school year will be year 23 for me. This school year will also be year 18 as a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) in English Language Arts.

I spend my summers scoring AP English Literature essays for the College Board, conducting professional development classes for the Mississippi Association of Educators, and directing VBS.

I am the mother to two boys (Zane, age 16 and Alex, age 13). Both boys attend school in Hernando, and we attend St. Timothy's Episcopal in Southaven.  We have a cat named Patches and a dog named Penny.

I have never wanted to be anything other than a teacher, and DeSoto County Schools has been my home since 1994.  I taught drama and 9th grade English for two years at Olive Branch High School before returning to my alma mater Southaven High School.  I was an AP Literature and Gifted 9th and 10th grade English teacher at SHS for over a decade before choosing to become a Gator in 2014.

My work at Northwest Mississippi Community College includes teaching Intermediate English, Composition I & II, and British Literature I & II as night classes on the DeSoto campus in Southaven and Dual Credit Composition I & II at Lake Cormorant High School.
